Glycerine werd reeds in 1779 ontdekt. Deze kleur- en geurloze siroopachtige substantie wordt verkregen uit vetten en oliën. Plantaardige glycerine wordt voornamelijk gewonnen uit kokosnoot.
Vanwege de zoete smaak wordt glycerine vaak gebruikt om de smaak van voedingsmiddelen te verzachten. De vochtinbrengende eigenschappen maken glycerine geschikt voor de vervaardiging van huidverzorgingsproducten en zeep.
Plantaardige glycerine is een belangrijk ingrediënt van veel gezondheids- en cosmeticarecepten in de boeken van Hulda Clark. Zo wordt het door haar gebruikt als ingrediënt voor aftershave en eyeliner, maar ook voor limonade.
Glycerine vormt een wezenlijk bestanddeel van Hulda Clarks bekende nierenkuur. Met zijn bevochtigende en smerende eigenschappen houdt glycerine de wanden van de urinewegen glad en soepel, hetgeen de uitscheiding van afvalstoffen vergemakkelijkt.
