Verdunde etherische tijmolie (50 druppels op 50 ml olijfolie) 's nachts als wrijfmiddel op de borst bij hevige hoestaanvallen. Tevens is het een goede zalf tegen reumatiek.
Enkele druppels etherische olie in heet water zijn goed als inhaler, om te stomen.

Contra-indicatie:
- Etherische oliën kunnen in enkele gevallen allergische reacties veroorzaken.
- huid: altijd verdunnen en de aanbevolen dosis niet overschrijden om huidirritatie te voorkomen
- verdampen: niet te langdurig gebruiken om irritatie de slijmvliezen te voorkomen
- vermijd tijdens zwangerschap en periodes van borstvoeding
- niet gebruiken bij kinderen
- niet gebruiken bij hoge bloeddruk
